Located in Downtown,
Wilmington, this two acre parcel is bordered by North
Third Street, north Fourth Street, Hanover Street and
Brunswick Street. It is in close proximity to the proposed
Convention Center and to Cape Fear Community College
as well as the new entrance of Smith Creek Parkway,
which will provide convenient access to I-40, the beaches
and to the northern end of the county. The Promenade
will combine space for residential, retail and commercial
use while utilizing the traditional feel of historic
downtown. The proposed amenities include a clock tower,
a pedestrian courtyard and a fountain complementing
the planned brick and stone buildings that will house
a mix of restaurants, stores and offices.
Later in 2000, HBA designed the first structure in the
re-development, a five-story office structure. The design
attempts to integrate historical elements into a modern
office structure. Sitting on a naturally high area of
the downtown, it creates a strong positive presence
along N. Third Street and anchors the new entry into
Wilmington, the soon to be completed Martin Luther King
Blvd. The structure also fronts along the pedestrian
corridor marking the N. Third Street end of the corridor.
This structure is five floors with approximately 22,500
square feet of space. The elevation of the land and
the height of the building will allow for significant
views of Historic Wilmington and the Cape Fear and Northeast
Cape Fear Rivers. It will have a lobby, an elevator
and is beautifully designed for barrier free commercial
tenancy.
