In 1997 Clark Hipp was asked to assist with the evaluation
of the historic de Rosset House to consider its potential
restoration and renovation for a new restaurant and
guest lodge. The prospective owners wished to restore
the 10,000, three story structure into a first class
facility. As the existing residence was listed on the
National Register as a “Significant Historic Structure”,
and as the structure was then owned by the Wilmington
Historic Foundation, all work proposed had to be evaluated
by the Historic District Commission, the State Historic
Preservation Office and the national Park Service.
Working with staff from
the State Historic Preservation Office, Clark assisting
in the evaluation of the historic elements to be maintained
in and on the structure while designing in a modern
day kitchen, a new bar facility and a large dining hall.
The historic significance of the structure was maintained
throughout and received a Preservation Award in 1999
from the Historic District Commission.
